Day 1

So far this is my first blog post.  I am kind of excited to see how this assignment turns out because it's one thing to sit in front of a computer or notebook and allow creativity to take myself over, but it's another to pause and contemplate or discuss how that is happening.  One of my biggest inspirations when it comes to writing is video games.  I find video games more immersive than books or watching a movie because you are a part of the narrative, the story and the action all at once and you are what shapes the story.

One of the biggest influences on my writing has come from a series known as Kingdom Hearts for the Playstation 2 system. Square Enix is a staple when it comes to narrative within video games and Disney is....well Disney.  The mash up of these two powerhouses in one game is extremely experimental and worked fantastic.  So much so, that the series has flourished to add three more titles to the main story and this fall / winter will see two more coming out.

A few years ago, I hit a very hard writers block and couldn't for the life of me find any inspiration or even free write.  I sat down and started playing this game and immediately was swept up within the games universe. Sadly I'll admit, hours of my life have been devoted to finding every single one of the 101 Dalmations.  After completing this game however, I started to question what happened after the final scene.  Could the main characters really live 'happily ever after'?  Could they just shirk the pain and guilt that Riku was suffering for the betrayal of half the Kingdom?  I went off on this thought which lead to a prolouge which less than a year later ended two hundred plus pages complete.
